welcome! i’m so glad you are here.
Forward flow counseling
offers hope, healing, and growth
from this stepping stone to the next.
Individual counseling
Individual counseling is an opportunity to explore and connect with your full self: emotionally, mentally, physically, socially, spiritually, and more. Learning ways to think and respond differently to everyday stressors can be a powerful way to build positive change and wellness. I am excited to share the strategies that I have learned to support your overall wellness including building satisfying relationships, managing difficult emotions, focusing on your goals and what is most important in life, and getting through crisis. I can accommodate shorter, focused skills building and check-ins or longer, in-depth processing such as attending to trauma.
Couples / relationship Counseling
Relationship counseling is best for partners or family members who recognize stress, dread, anxiety, frustration, emotional pain, or feeling misunderstood within their relationship. I offer a supportive space to come with your partner or family member to learn about yourself, them, and strategies to navigate emotion, communication, hurtful or destructive behavior, and achieving mutual goals. If additional individual counseling would be helpful for one or both individuals I can support with a referral.
Group counseling
Group counseling can be a great addition to individual counseling or completed on its own. Coming together with others experiencing similar concerns can be empowering, hopeful, and educational. We can learn from each other and take reassurance knowing we are not in it alone. If you are interested in group meetings please reach out for more information.
I am passionate about getting to know you and your journey.
I have always been curious about why we do the things we do (or don’t do) as individuals, groups, and societies. In pursuit of this understanding, I graduated with my BA of psychology in 2015. I found the discipline of social work to have more actionable values (here) than those of psychology, and I completed my Master’s of Social Work in 2019. Through the support of phenomenal mentors and teams throughout my experience, I gained independent license to practice counseling (CSW-PIP) in 2022.
For the past decade I have partnered with individuals and families at local agencies in Rapid City (WRMH, LSS, OHC). I enjoy working with people from all walks of life in non-judgemental and open ways. My passion is to share a kind and supportive space for building awareness and strategies to make your everyday life happier, simpler, more connected, and less stressful.
All are welcome here.
Megan Holman, MSW, CSW-PIP, QMHP
My Approach
I believe that every person deserves time, space, and support to focus on the important areas of life. Whether we work together for a few sessions or longer, I am committed to listening deeply to your concerns and successes. You are the expert in the driver’s seat of your life. To aid in navigating your journey I offer an integrated approach of tools, strategies, perspective, and compassion built from multiple disciplines.
My training
I have been formally trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and culturally-attuned strategies for trauma treatment. I am developing my application of somatic and narrative strategies as well. With this training I can support you in working through challenges including
emotional rollercoasters and racing thoughts
balancing responsibilities to yourself and others
letting go of overly critical self-talk
building and sustaining healthy relationships
feeling ‘checked out’ or like things aren’t real
feeling connected and at home in your body
reducing dependence on alcohol or other substances
processing past or present difficult or traumatic experiences
I enjoy working with you as a whole person. Although we might start our work in one area, we can tend to whatever concerns are most important for you to address.
For many years I have also practiced the self-defense martial art of Aikido. Aikido roughly translates as ‘the path to blending / synchronizing energy or intention.’ Aikido’s practice of diffusing violence with relaxed, assertive, yet compassionate energy informs my counseling work. As our paths intersect, I hope to provide support for your foundation of capability, self-love, and peace to get through whatever life throws your way.
